Leave Room For Spontaneity

“I like the element of surprise and spontaneity, of letting the story find its own way.” Khaled Hosseini

Spontaneous: performed or occurring as a result of a sudden inner impulse or inclination and without premeditation. How often do we have spontaneous moments in our days? Usually they happen as micro moments, but when was the last time you let that decision take you a bit further?

There are obvious benefits to having some structure in our days. Having plans and organizing our schedules provides us with a direction and it makes it far easier to achieve our objectives. This being said, there is equal beauty to be found in those unplanned events. When we step into the unknown, it is as though our 5 senses are enhanced. It seems as though we have woken up to an unlimited amount of colourful discoveries. With a little curiosity and an open mind, the universe may present you with wonderful opportunities for learning, friendship and adventure.

The point is to play with time a bit. It is very possible to get caught up in our routines and become a bit mechanical sometimes. You hear it often, “ I don’t know where the time went” or “time flies”, but time is relative. It is relative to our breathing, to our actions and to our interpretations. The more we try out different approaches to spending our time, the more we are able to create more space for ourselves.

When traveling, we encounter many things along our journeys that we couldn’t have predicted. The new environments, culture and daily structures that we run into provide us with the perfect context to exercise some spontaneous living. It can become so easy to say yes to an unexpected proposal and find yourself doing something that you had never imagined. Time slows, the self dissolves and we become unified with life around us. We immerse ourselves into the present moment and take in the delicacies of the earth’s diverse menu.

With confidence in ourselves and in our abilities, anything is possible. Finding balance within the ebbs and flows of our days has always been challenging. Balance doesn’t just allow us to move forward, it allows us to move in any way we’d like. Leaving room for spontaneity in our days or on our travels may just be another way to balance out our lives and to expand our use of time.

It certainly isn’t about mindless wandering, it is more about mindful exploration.

Next time it happens, take note of where the ride takes you. The universe is always giving to those who trust in the journey.

Let’s change the way we travel, together.
