Embracing The Winter Season

January 22, 2018

“To be interested in the changing seasons is a happier state of mind than to be hopelessly in love with spring.” - George Santayana

Canada is a month into winter and it looks like it is going to be a good one. With snow falling across the country and the winds picking up on the coastlines, our favourite conversation point has never seemed more popular. It is cold, it is wet, and our moods are affected by the forces outside. There is no doubt that we would all probably feel a little bit better in the sun, but it doesn’t look like winter is going anywhere fast, so we might as well learn to embrace it.

It doesn’t take long for the weather to affect our mentality. Everyone knows that when summer comes, the parks are flooded with happy people. It seems like everyone is so excited about activities and full of enthusiasm. We get outside, we get active and we generally have a lot more fun. With winter though, our decisions are immediately impacted by the colour of the sky. Grey makes us feel uneasy or even closed in. Somehow, everything seems like so much more of a hassle to follow through on as if gravity holds us down heavily.

We don’t have to fight the seasons. There is so much exploration to be done both outside and inside. Rather than allowing the bad weather to deter us with our goals, we want to try and adapt with the times. For example, winter provides us with a great opportunity to get organized in our homes, do some deep learning, and develop our hobbies. If you aren’t into skiing or winter sports, why not find some time to touch up on your indoor aquatic skills and even recover in a sauna?

Whatever we decide to do, one thing we should try and stop doing is wishing that it was over. Wishing away time is simply ridiculous. As we know, winter happens every year and some of our best memories occur during the winter season.  This year, try and take a different viewpoint on the cold season. Imagine yourself 3 months from now and see how much learning you did, how your mental and physical state have changed, and what amazing conversations you have had.  As we know, animals plan all fall for their winter hibernation as a means of survival. Humans don’t need to hibernate. We need to keep moving.  For the time you spend in the cold, embrace it and use it as a season for celebration, growth, and the discovery of beautiful landscapes that are unique to our part of the world.

Don’t get us wrong, is it never a bad thing to escape to a nice warm climate for a bit. In fact if you do let us know, we can help create a memorable escape.  At the moment, The Lifestyle Project is excited to be working on some great spring and summer experiences for many of our clients. If you can’t stop thinking about the escape, feel free to give us a call and we can provide you with some unique, personalized adventures.

The growth we make during the winter will stay with us for the rest of the year.

Let’s embrace winter.

Let’s change the way we travel, together.
